Guangzhou is located in the southeast of Guangdong province, in the north of the Pearl River Delta near Hong Kong and Macao. It is South China’s central transportation hub and trading port as well as the “south gate” of China. As the capital of Guangdong province, Guangzhou is a centre for politics, economy, technology, education and culture. Guangzhou is a famous cultural city with a history dating back 2200 years. Guangzhou has a population of approximately 17 million people. It is a sub-tropical city close to the Tropic of Cancer with mild weather and abundant rainfall. The four seasons are evergreen.
Both cities have comprehensive, modern metro lines, expressways, international airports, inexpensive taxis, a bus system and Didi (taxi) services. It only takes 2 hours to travel from Guangzhou to Hong Kong and Macao by train or bus. Wuhan is a major transportation hub with high-speed rail connection to Beijing in the north, Guangzhou and Shenzhen in the south, Shanghai in the east and Chongqing and Chengdu in the west. Both are very convenient locations for travelling in China and other places in Asia.
With a population of over 11 million, Wuhan is the capital and largest city of Hubei Province, the ninthmost populous Chinese city and one of the nine National Central Cities of China. The city lies in the eastern Jianghan Plain at the confluence of the Yangtze River and its largest tributary, the Han River, and is known as “Nine Provinces’ Thoroughfare”. Wuhan is the political, economic, financial, commercial, cultural and educational centre of Central China. Located in the sub-tropical monsoon humid climate zone, it is characterised by abundant rainfall, sufficient sunshine, and four distinct seasons.
Since Guangzhou is a long-standing first tier city and Wuhan is a new first tier city in China, there are many supermarkets which sell imported groceries, shopping malls, restaurants that cater for every taste, and gigantic local markets that provide goods for the world to import. Living in Guangzhou and Wuhan is a shopping paradise. There are also international department stores such as IKEA stores where teachers like to shop for household and school resources.
